Movie shorts and booze

My weekend was altogether too short.

Friday night I wanted to see the animation shorts film festival that was playing at the DMAC downtown. Not wanting to go alone I badgered crystalforest into going with me. Before I went down I soaked in my roman tub with a bottle of wine. The wine went into me not into the tub. So by time I got downtown I was feeling fine indeed.

Crystalforest was late like she always is. I wandered into DMAC and asked if they had seen a big Amazon chick wandering about. No one had so I knew she had not arrived yet. So I blew a little time by going across the street and having a rum and coke. There are so many bars downtown now I cannot even count them all. To amuse myself I had brought my little I-zone instant camera with sticky film and was snapping pics of various events I engaged in (IE DRINKING) and pasting them on my chest. By time the night was over I had a spiffy little collection going on my chest.

I had been in DMAC before when I went to see ‘The bellringer’ a one man play that was pretty cool. However I never knew DMAC had an upstairs. We took a little elevator upstairs and to my surprise there was a little theater built in there. The place was not crowded mostly a college student crowd. Although it was small it was easy to find a seat.

The first film was about a fan falling in love with a flower. It was a cute movie and pretty short. The second film was fantastic. It was named: ‘The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello’ Giant gear-and-dial air ships and all the characters were filmed in silhouette. It gave the entire film a very surreal aspect to it and it left me fascinated. I would easily watch it again.

The third film bored me to tears. It was some Italian guys story about his Italian dad. I don’t know what it is about Italians that make them think I would find a shred of interest in their deadbeat Guido’s fathers hard-luck life. Oh and the mafia was involved. You simply cannot have an Italian story without the mafia can you? The clip was so boring that I actually fell asleep for a little bit. (I am sure the wine I was nipping helped) I was lurched awake to a quick jab to my ribcage from crystalforest. Apparently I had begun to snore.

The final clip was computer animation and dealt with a rag-doll living in some sort of blasted out urban wasteland while some creature was going around and stealing his brethren’s souls. I have a hard time deciding if I liked that one or the airship one better. I might have to see them captioned to be sure. However the computer animated one was superb and had a great surreal aspect to it. It is going to be made into a feature-length movie and I cannot wait for it.

On the way out I snapped a pic of crystal forest next to an empty 40oz beer bottle that was in the elevator. Something for the grandkids.

Afterwards we wandered over to some bar and shot some pool while I had a beer or two. I really don’t like pool. I am not very good at it and I really do not find it to be very stimulating. Hitting little balls with sticks and then getting excited when they fall into a hole. In today’s world of whiz-bang electronics and constant neural stimulation how is that supposed to amuse me?

We had some wings after the pool game. The wings kind of sucked but at that point I was boozed up and hungry and would have eaten a deep fried rat on a stick. Crystalforest decided to call it a night at that point and I drove I buzzed ass home. Just before I got home I had a sudden pie urge. Nothing was open so I popped in the 7-11 and got myself a cherry hostess fruit pie. I then dropped into the hen and demanded a glass of wine to go with my fruit pie. I happily munched away my pie and had a cool glass of zinfandel while the bemused patrons eyeballed me and the collection of izone photo’s I had stuck to my chest. I only stayed long enough for my pie and wine and then headed home.

I spent most of the weekend finishing up my shower. I finished the final book in the ‘Song of fire and ice’ series that I have been reading since Christmas. Naturally I want more but I have no idea when the new book is going to be out. I now have nothing to read so on my lunch break today I need to hit the used bookshop and make a refill of reading material.

I played with installing some gameboy roms on to my flash cart I bought. The flash cart works flawlessly however I still have not been able to figure out how to use the built-in state saved functions on the cart. Apparently I have to patch a rom with something before it can be used. The instructions are a little cryptic. At any rate I have been amusing myself by playing the ‘kirby’ games. They are silly easy yet still challenging and fun. I like being able to suck up enemies and then spit them out at people. It’s more fun then watching a ball drop in a hole.
